Sean is a member of the now famous Burke clan who form the backbone of the victorious All Ireland St Thomas team.
Featured on a recent RTE news report GAA correspondent Marty Morrissey profiled St Thomas’s ahead of their bid to claim the All-Ireland club title on St Patrick’s Day. Trained by his father John, Sean together with his five brothers, were instrumental in the 1-11 to 1-9 victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey in Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day.

St. Thomas’s (situated South West of Loughrea on the route to Gort) was established in 1968 when two adjoining parishes, Kilchreest and Peterswell, joined forces. The club was promoted to senior ranks in 1978 and initially endured a chequered existence in senior hurling. They were relegated on a number of occasions, but secured promotion quickly with intermediate championship victories in 1996 and 2004. Since 2004 a group of young, talented, dedicated hurlers have emerged with championships secured in both Minor and U21 in later years, culminating in their recent All Ireland Club Championship win.
Sean has been hurling with the club from underage. He has a number of achievements to his name including an All-Ireland Minor Hurling Medal (2005), All- Ireland U-16 Medal (2003), 2 All-Ireland Schools Medals with St. Brigid’s Vocational School (2002 & 2003), All-Ireland County Vocational School Medal (2003), as well as captaining the U-16 County

Off the hurling pitch Sean obtained a Bachelor of Corporate Law from the National University of Ireland, Galway and a Masters in International Commercial Law from the University of Limerick. He has over four years’ experience in corporate recovery and insolvency. He joined MGR Accountants in January 2013 and has been a strong addition to the corporate recovery team.
